Poverty is not a prerequisite to Heaven

povertyisnot

And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom (Luke 16: 22-23).

The scripture above is one of the many scriptures that are misinterpreted to mean that poverty is a prerequisite to Heaven. It must be state emphatically that, poverty is not a prerequisite to Heaven. The only prerequisite to Heaven is accepting Jesus as one’s personal savior and being obedient to Him.

Scripture makes it clear that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessings in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3). Every blessing we see around us was already in the spirit before becoming real in the physical. So if the child of God has every spiritual blessing, why then should he/she be poor? Many factors may be responsible for the poverty.

Firstly, one may be poor because of lack of knowledge of God’s word. Scripture says, my people perish because of lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).

Secondly, one may be poor because of lack of practice of God’s word. You can know His word, but without doing it, you will not enjoy the fruits. The fruits are hidden in the doing of the word. As Christians, we are doers of the word.

Thirdly, inconsistency in the practice of God’s word may be responsive for poverty. Sometimes, missing the timing of God could be the cause of poverty therefore the need for us to be sensitive to God’s word and His timing.

If we do not work with our hands, we could become poor. God has deposited talent(s) in everybody for wealth creation. Failure to identify, develop and use it may be a cause of poverty. Several other factors not mentioned here may be the cause of poverty.

To conclude scripture does not exactly state the cause of Lazarus’ poverty, nevertheless, poverty is not a prerequisite to enter Heaven.

WE ARE MADE FREE BECAUSE…..

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing ( Isaiah 10.27).

The advent of Jesus Christ has revealed many things about man and the whole universe. Several things that were not possible before have become possible for Christians because of Jesus Christ. Several diseased people are now being healed and set free. Poverty is no longer holding some people in bondage. The power of sin used to hold people in bondage but now, people are being set free from the oppression of sin. All these benefits are possible because of the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

If you are in difficult situations and have tried what is humanly possible without getting any solutions, I recommend that you consult the Holy Spirit through God’s word and you will surely receive great answers to your challenging situations. All is not lost for you. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has hope for the whole world. We have been made free because of Jesus Christ and the anointing of Holy Spirit so take advantage of these.

MORE BLESSING IN GIVING THAN RECEIVING!

ID-100206209

When I was growing up in elementary school, I had a teacher who always advised us to teach each other after classes on topics that some of us did not understand. The selfish students among us did not practice the advice of our teacher. However, I realised that the more some of us explained our understanding on a topic to our peers, the more clarification or understanding we got on those topics. I carried this quality to the university level and it was still helpful. Spending some time to clarify lecture notes to colleagues is not time wasting but very beneficial to the student doing it.  How true the scripture is in Act 20:35 which reads “….it is more blessed to give than to receive”.

Some countries like the U.S.A., Britain, Germany and many others have become rich because of several development policies they have implemented over the years including aid support to less endowed countries. A church or institution which gives to support others become rich. The principle of giving and receiving is a spiritual principle and operates for everyone who obeys it.

Less endowed people always look up to rich people for hand outs. Rich people mostly give out to people and as a result become richer. The rich people would hardly blame some ‘entities’ for where they are but more often than not, the less endowed would blame almost everybody for their current state of deprivation. You may have a legitimate reason to blame an external force for your current poor state but that should stop at a point in time. What is important is to move forward to bring about a positive change in status rather than engaging in the ‘blame game’ business.

No matter how small what you have is, you can give out to pull yourself out of poverty or deprivation. What you give may not be in monetary terms; you can give out your time to help out people in need of it. You can give out your ideas to help in the development of people around you. Giving always comes with a reward greater than what you gave though the reward may not be in kind!

WHAT IS YOUR CHRISTMAS GIFT?

ID-10058765Christmas is almost here and everywhere is full of excitement! As it is all over in the world, during Christmas, members of families aggregate at a point, take stock of the year, celebrate the current year and anticipate greater successes for the following year. Christmas is the time families and loved ones share food, successes and failures, difficulties etc. All these are great but there is something greater that we can also share with people! This is the word of God!

For Christians, Christmas marks the celebration of the birth of Jesus. Jesus lived on this earth and proved that the character of God the father can be lived again on earth after the fall of the first man (Adam). Jesus raised the death, fed the hungry, healed the sick and above all, brought the God life to man. Jesus died and resurrected to show the whole world that, death has been defeated. Jesus said in John 17:22 that, “And the glory which thou givest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one”. What a privilege we have as Christians. God has given man the power to take dominion over the earth. This is the good news we have to share with people.

Christmas is one of the rare times we have to share the gospel with everybody we come across. Christmas is the time to remind believers about their place in Christ and what they are able to do: able to heal the sick; raise the death; deliver people from poverty and deprivation; discover more through science; lead the world; bring peace to the world etc.   It is also the time to tell unbelievers what God has in store for them and not to condemn them. As we celebrate Christmas, ensure that your share the word of the God with people you will come across. This the greatest gift you can give any one in this Christmas. Also don’t forget to share and celebrate other things like food, drinks, gifts etc. with your neighbours and friends. Merry Christmas in advance to everyone. Chao.
