Have you ever heard or come across a culprit blaming the devil rather than himself or herself? A rapist was arrested and all that he could say was that, “I don’t know how it all happened- it was the devil who deceived me….”. The devil is always blamed for being responsible for every evil that people commit.
As a child of God, we must understand that, the devil and his cohorts always tempts people but they have no power to impose things on us. The human ‘will’ is such a powerful force that can’t be under the control of an external force. However, one can surrender his/her will to another entity. That is why although God has made provision for man to be saved, we still have some people who have made up their mind not to convert to Christianity. It takes an individual to make a personal decision to become a Christian.
From the scripture above, anybody who blames the devil for his/her state in life lacks spiritual self control. In other words, that person has yielded his/her will or spirit (directly or indirectly) to an entity and therefore does the workings of that spirit or entity. If you want progress in your life, your spirit has to be under the control of the Holy Spirit- this is, a conscious effort has to be made. God’s word (which is life and spirit) has to dominate your spirit. Then will you be able to discover even more elements about your human spirit and explore the benefits of the human spirit. Demonstrating self control is possible for the child of God!
Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong Exodus 23:2 (NIV).
The crowd has more often than not assisted in bringing about positive changes in society! One can talk of demonstrations where a crowd of people hit the streets to protest. Sometime, these demonstrations are peaceful and therefore yield positive results. Some other times, these demonstrations are ‘rough’ and result in destruction of public and private property. Some elements of the crowd may also take advantage of the situation and do the wrong things such as breaking shops and looting items!
We are being admonished by the scripture above not to follow the crowd in doing wrong. It is for a just course, we are allowed to join but we have to ensure that some elements do not take advantage of the situation to perpetuate evil or bad deeds.
